…What is Patreon?!

“There’s no good music anymore…”

Look, here’s the reality:

The algorithms online tend to bury the good stuff.

You might have thought to yourself, “I can’t find a good song on the radio anymore.”

Or, “There used to be so much more MEANING to songs.”

“A lot of the music that hits the charts is really shallow and boring…”

“Most commercial pop music is crap!” (That’s what someone on reddit said).

And who can blame him - another reddit user added:

“I guess studios decided that actual good music doesn’t make very much money.”

For myself, as an artist, I needed to find a way to make a living in the 21st Century…

WHILE creating something that’s really original.

…A way to provide others with music that’s unique and utterly distinctive (something that’s rare to find these days!).

Music that’s not familiar or comfortable sounding…

But works of ART with actual substance and meaning.

That’s why my commitment to you is this:

I commit to making music you’ve never quite heard before.

I’m a metalhead-turned-classical guitarist…

Usually it’s the other way around - most classical players sell out and go off to create something more ‘populist’ for the masses 🙂

And there’s nothing seriously WRONG with that…

Just means the music tends to become more uniform sounding…

But I’m the opposite of that - I STARTED in ‘popular’ music, then ended up falling in love with classical.

(Specifically, CONTEMPORARY classical - where there are NO boundaries).

I grew up in the internet age…

Which means I was discovering WEIRD genres of music just as the internet was being born…

Most of the music I listen to (and am influenced by) defies category.

In fact…

So far, I’ve only met 1 other person in real life who’s even heard of these weird genres… (my friend Jeremy!)

And he’s ONLY NOW discovering artists that I was listening to 15 years ago!

If you’ve ever felt that the music of ‘today’ is shallow and boring…

I started out as a metal-head writing 18-minute prog songs with my college bandmates…

Discovered that ‘classical’ composers like Bach, Beethoven, and Schoenberg blew everything out of the water…

(HUNDREDS of years before my favorite prog metal bands)...

But then I hit a HUGE compositional block when it came to breaking out on my own and composing my own ‘classical’ compositions.

It wasn’t until I started writing somebody’s name at the top of the score…

And dedicating each piece of music to a specific person…

That I broke out and started writing things that were actually interesting & meaningful.

Since then, I’ve played hundreds of shows…

Gone on tour…

And performed around the world in locations as remote as Yichang City, China.
